The Office of Thierry W. Despont

Thierry Despont is the visionary who, together with selected artisans, is bringing 60 Curzon to life by coordinating multiple spaces, materials and details throughout his memorable design.

60 Curzon’s design is based upon bespoke interior layouts with the intimacy and attention to detail reminiscent of his remarkable portfolio, from New York’s 220 Central Park South and The Carlyle Hotel to The Ritz, Paris and London’s celebrated Claridge’s.

Lee Polisano’s PLP Architecture salutes the deco architectural legacy of the building with a façade that combines the heritage of Mayfair while alluding to the elegance of the 6th and 7th arrondissements in Paris and the opulence and grandeur of New York’s Upper East Side. Its corner position affords a vantage point over Curzon Street towards Berkeley Square to the east, whilst marking the village-like feel of this quadrant of Mayfair, with Shepherd Market to the west.

Sourcing only the best materials from around the world makes for a building that resonates with meaning. The façade cleverly blends intricate bronze ironmongery, hand-set Portland Stone and hand-glazed faience tiles created exclusively by Dutch artisans, who recreated historic architectural glazes by deciphering long-forgotten craftsmen’s codes. These building materials are complemented by the English woodland-inspired private landscape garden, designed by Gustafson Porter + Bowman.

The building’s design story reveals itself like an interior script of deco modernist design accomplished by the most remarkable craftspeople. The patina of the American Black Walnut floors, combined with a wealth of book-matched, backlit marble and exacting spatial design creates an atmosphere of exceptional elegance and understated sophistication.
